Alyssa Courtney, Graduate Student Intern
Professional
Hello, my name is Alyssa (she/her). I’m a Graduate Intern currently completing my Master in Social Work on the path to becoming an LCSW. My decision to pursue social work comes from both personal and professional experiences that have shown me how deeply systems shape our lives.
My roles working as a domestic violence advocate, vision therapist, and case manager have shown me how important it is for people to have access to supportive therapeutic tools and neurodivergent affirming care. In our sessions, I will draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and a humanistic, client-centered perspective. My goal is to create a collaborative space of mutual respect where we can explore challenges, build practical skills, and connect with what matters most to you. Beginning therapy takes courage, and I’m glad you’re here.
Areas of special interest:
LGBTQ+ Mental Health
Traumatic Recovery

Personal
I was raised in Oregon City in a working-class family, and I care deeply about this community. I know firsthand how daunting it can feel to navigate therapy for the first time, and I carry that awareness into the way I show up for clients today. As a generational Oregonian, I also reflect on the history of this land and what it means to grow within the context of the settler colonial project. These roots shape the way I connect with others, especially working-class and queer communities.
Outside of work and school, I enjoy vintage finds, old films, and stage plays. I also spend time gardening, birdwatching, caring for sheep and chickens and staying connected to nature and community.
As a Graduate Intern, Alyssa accepts OHP through Health Share/Care Oregon or Self-Pay on a reduced-rate sliding scale ($10 to $50 per session) and sees clients as openings occur.
