Dave Davis, QMHP-C

I believe many of our troubles in life result from stuck patterns of thinking and unhelpful/outdated ways of relating to ourselves and to other people. But just recognizing these patterns is generally not enough, we also need to break these old habits and replace them with something new and healthy. In my approach to therapy, I draw on humanistic / depth psychology traditions in order to help you explore the things that might be stuck in your life, and to help you envision the life you actually want to live. Once a new goal for your life is identified, we will use modern evidence-based treatments such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness techniques to help you practice healthier habits of mind, empowering you to move effectively toward the life you desire.

Personal Life

I am a life-long West Coaster, having grown up in Portland, I also spent considerable time in Tacoma, Seattle, Eugene and San Diego. I consider himself a jack-of-all-trades type and am equally at home reading philosophy or working on cars, building sculptural lighting or remodeling the house. As a former professional distance runner and competitive cyclist, I still enjoy running and bikes of all kinds. I believe strongly in the intertwined nature of mind and body, and these days, pursue running and cycling for health and well-being more than for competition. I live in Portland with my lovely wife and my wild cat.

As a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP), Dave accepts OHP through Health Share/Care Oregon, Trillium, or Self-Pay on a sliding scale ($70 to $225 per session), and sees clients as openings occur.
