Professional Life
Sam is a graduate student earning her Master’s of Arts in Counseling at Northwestern University. Sam graduated from Vassar College in 2017 with a degree in biochemistry. She went on to pursue a Master’s of Science in Human Nutrition and a Master’s of Education in Community Nutrition Education at Columbia University and became a registered dietitian in 2021. Sam has worked as an eating disorder and sports dietitian in residential and outpatient treatment settings. While she loved working with people individually, she realized she wanted to be able to support clients and their mental health on a deeper level and began pursuing her degree in counseling.
In addition to her professional background, Sam’s experience as competitive runner as well as coming out as a lesbian in adulthood have made her particularly interested in supporting clients through:
- LGBTQ+ identity
- Communication and relationships
- Life transitions
- Athlete identity and performance anxiety
- Body image
Sam is receiving training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Personal Life
Sam was born in California and moved to New York to pursue her undergraduate and graduate degrees. She ran track in college and is now a marathon runner. She moved to Portland in 2020 in pursuit of more balance and trees.
Outside of therapy you can find Sam:
- Training for her next race with her local running team
- Trying to tire out her vizsla, Percy
- Listening to true crime podcasts
As a Student Intern, Samara accepts OHP through Health Share/Care Oregon or Self-Pay on a reduced-rate sliding scale ($10 to $50 per session) and sees clients as openings occur.
