Sibylle Dehart, Graduate Student Intern
she/her
Professional Life
Sibylle is a graduate student earning her Master’s of Arts in Counseling with Northwestern University. In 2022, she graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in psychology and women, gender, and sexuality studies, concentrating in sexuality studies. Sibylle’s background in gender and sexuality, as well as her own identity as a queer woman, has made her especially passionate about working with clients who feel impacted by normative ideas about sex, sexuality, and gender. Her goal is to create a safe and affirming therapeutic alliance, wherein clients can feel seen and supported in:
Negotiating interpersonal relationships with equity, authenticity, and self-advocacy
Healing the mind, body, and mind-body connection after trauma
Navigating societal power structures and experiences of oppression with agency and empowerment
Identity formation and integration, including 2SLGBTQ+ identities and survivorship
Sibylle values transparency and collaboration in the counseling relationship, taking an egalitarian, strengths-based, and person-centered approach. Her therapeutic style is informed by humanistic and psychodynamic perspectives. She believes that all behaviors serve a purpose and that — with self-compassion and skills-building — clients can learn new, more adaptive patterns of behavior that meet the same needs. As part of her supervision at Oregon City Counseling, Sibylle is receiving training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Personal Life
Sibylle was born in the state of Virginia and moved to Portland in 2022 after completing her undergraduate education.
She is grateful to share her life with her partner and their two cats. When she’s not working towards her master’s degree, she’s probably:
Learning a new craft
Drawing
Reading feminist non-fiction or spooky short stories
Playing video games
Doing a Wikipedia deep dive on plants, animals, or fungi
Exploring the Portland area
As a Student Intern, Sibylle accepts OHP through Health Share/Care Oregon or Self-Pay on a reduced-rate sliding scale ($10 to $50 per session) and sees clients as openings occur.
